Sports Complex AKA As the wheel that cost a fortune

I sure hope most of those 4000 a week sports complex visitors are residents or day trippers. I don't think Santee inn could handel the overflow. I heard somewhere that it will take decades to recoup the cost of that wagon weel facility. Is that right? I do not mind growth but I get concerned when city funds are invested to the tune of 6 plus million in what I beleive will become an albatros around the city's neck. I've heard the dream of perhaps hosting regional little league playoff games. Does that mean that Santee Inn is going to expand? They wont be able to stay at the Los Colinas "Campus", at least I hope not. That means they have to stay in another city or share the riverbed with it's indegent residents. I've lived in Santee for more than three decades and I have seen what well planned and wisley financed growth looks like. I think this complex is more of an "ego thing" than good planning or smart financing.
I am not interested in becoming Poway South, just because Poway has a sports complex does not excite me to invest tax payer monies in a project that will take decades (if ever) to recoup. Nor am I interested or excited about being called "La Jolla East". Mayor Voepel almost hit the nail on the head on the Larry King Show when he reffered to Santee as a lot like Mayberry, I only wished he had expanded on that theme all he had to do is add "21st Century"

Rob: Thanks for the blog
Sincerely,
Rusty Williams

Rusty, thank you for your input on this topic, I love your writing style. My view on the Sports Complex is that it will be a great benefit to the local business' in Santee. I think that these "Visitors" will want to eat after or before a big game or maybe want to do some shopping while a loved one is playing ball. Also it does give the adult leagues more options to add to their currently very small list of events for local adult sporting enthusiasts. As far as the metaphor to describe Santee goes, I would take it one step further. I would call us "The City with La Jolla class and Mayberry values". OK I will work on that a little more...

Rusty's comments leave out one very important item. The wagon wheel complex will include a beer bar and sandwich shop. The sale of beer and sandwiches at the food center will make a good deal of money for the city. This will help with the construction of future parks.
