I'd like to start with a story. Once upon a time there was a pasture where the cows would graze and over time as they meandered from the barn to the feeder to the pond, they created a path. It wasn't the straightest , most well thought out, or most efficient path, but it was the easiest. Now as the years past, a town was built and the path became the towns main street. It wasn't the straightest , most well thought out, or most efficient street, but it was the easiest. And when it came time to build a road for the cars to travel, the path was paved. Not because it was the straightest, most well thought out or most efficient route, but simply because it was the easiest.
Mr. Roberts, you are wrong to dismiss the London Group's Las Colinas land usage analysis. You say that a replacment study is much needed. Unfortunately there is no disagreement there. However replacing the temporary 16 acre Las Colinas Facility nestled behind Edgmore and the old Historic Barn and Community Garden with a Permanent 45 acre 1216 bed Jail is unacceptable. Especially when there are other options available that would NOT impact the surrounding community. If you read the London Report, you will see that these opptions are more efficeint and fiscally sound routes for the tax payers of San Diego.
By dismissing the London Report, you are looking for a "Quick Fix" to the County's opperational problem. But your quick fix will create new problems for the residents, businesses, preschools, elementary schools, high schools and sadly the elderly residing in direct proximity to the jail facility.
Mr. Roberts and fellow supervisors, you have the moral obligation not to DISMISS the needs and rights of the people, young, old and in between who call Santee "HOME". Please take the time to consider your decision which will undoubtedly determine the quality of life in Santee for many years to come.
You have a responsibility to the tax payers of San Diego.
Mr. Roberts and fellow Supervisors, remember the cow path, it's not the straightest most well thought out, or most efficient route. It is simply the easiest,
Please do not pave the cow path and make it Santee's main street.
